Is Colombia Travel Safe? My Cartagena Experience

Colombia travel safe? Absolutely! Last year, in February 2025, I had the chance to visit Cartagena, and one of the first things I noticed was how safe and welcoming the city felt. It’s an easy place to enjoy from the moment you arrive.

I absolutely loved exploring the city. One of the highlights was taking a colorful and lively Chiva bus tour, which made sightseeing both fun and memorable. During the tour, I visited the historic Walled City and the San Felipe de Barajas Castle—both fascinating landmarks and perfect spots for capturing beautiful photos.

Walking through the streets of Cartagena is an experience in itself. The city is full of energy, charm, and vibrant colors that make every corner feel magical. In Getsemaní, art and creativity are everywhere—you truly can’t help but fall in love with the atmosphere. The afternoons are especially pleasant, and you’ll find countless cozy spots to sit back and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee.

One experience I highly recommend is watching the sunset from a catamaran or yacht. With your favorite drink in hand, good music playing, and a fun, relaxed vibe all around, the views are simply stunning—something I still think about often.

For those looking to unwind, Isla Barú and the Rosario Islands are perfect escapes. These destinations offer a peaceful connection with nature, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and ideal conditions for swimming. If you enjoy marine life, you’ll find plenty to admire beneath the surface as well.

Overall, I can confidently recommend Cartagena, Barú, and the Rosario Islands. It’s a safe, exciting, and beautiful destination where you can enjoy a perfect mix of culture and beach life.

Oh—and the food is absolutely delicious.
